The SUMMER SUN represents mothers and grandmothers and their unconditional love that shines down on us all with an unshakeable sunny optimism.

The BOSSY BADGER took over the main lawn in the years the vineyard property was quiet. He had dug a major hunting hole over time and created a surprisingly large mound of dirt right in the middle of everything.
By lore, formidable and patient - his strong grounding is a good sign when putting down new roots.

This WITTY SPARROW represents the birds that are a mixed blessing here.  A few can help keep pests under control, but near harvest time large flocks - murmurs - can eat an entire vineyard. That's why we use netting as the grapes begin to mature.

The QUICK FOX doesn't refer to it's speedy reflexes but to its swift wit and cleverness. Long considered a "spirit animal", they signal unique problem-solving is needed ahead. One day we thought we discovered a baby fox on our property . . . but, it turned out to be a red wire haired puppy who soon adopted us, becoming a much-loved part of the family.

The LADYBUG literally landed on us as we first walked the property after we acquired it. Long considered good luck, especially for farmers, as they help control pests in the most natural and sustainable way. Spotting a ladybug has always been considered lucky and a good sign for us.

The LUCKY LOVE BIRDS represent the two founders, who feel lucky to have found each other and now share yet another chapter in life's journey together.

The FIELD MOUSE - there were lots of them when we first showed up and they had a field day in and under our lawn during the time the property was vacated. We see them less often now that the property is full of friends and (human) guests.

The FOUR STARS represent our four children, each unique in their temperaments and talents, but loved equally for their shining light. Together the siblings combine for a talented and blessed constellation.

Another spirit animal - the RABBIT is a symbol of prosperity, abundance, and fertility in folklore. If you have rabbits in your life, it just means that you have no problem expressing happiness and affection when it comes to people you love! We love spotting rabbits passing through our vineyard.

The HARVEST MOON represents fathers and grandfathers - whose watchful gaze and steady hands have guided and hugged generations.

ABOUT US

"We did not come from a long line of winemakers, but then this place found us, and we decided the line has to start somewhere."

LISA + TERRY DAVENPORT

“I love to help people craft wines of significance."

"We wholeheartedly believe in the profound connection we can create when sharing an inspired meal and wine together."

TIM DONAHUE

Whoever said “it takes a village”, must have had a winery. Different tastes and talents must blend well to create something that is wonderful and enduring. Our Kinhaven team is dedicated to making every experience as memorable and tasteful as our wines.

LISA + TERRY DAVENPORT

FOUNDERS

New York City is a long way from Walla Walla, but that's where we met over 35 years ago - literally love at first sight (it still happens). We were both early in our careers in the Madison Avenue ad business - careers that had us move frequently to quarters far flung from Southern California to Southern Florida - Boulder, Colorado and the Midwest before the "upper-left hand-corner" of Seattle's siren call beckoned us to Seattle in 2006.

Our love affair with Walla Walla began a few years later when our youngest daughter, chose Whitman College.  Our four years of frequent visits from Seattle were always full of new experiences and unexpected surprises.  In the fall of 2015 we were charmed by a 1909 neoclassical home near the campus that whispered to us for a lovingly and respectful, but eclectically modern update.  After a complete exterior restoration - and a near catastrophic fire later, we opened the door of BOYER HOUSE to the community and to a busy schedule of guests and visitors for graduations, weddings, milestone birthdays and family reunions, girls' trips and of course, wine tasting excursions.

KINHAVEN was an equally serendipitous move for us.  Leaving corporate careers to start a winery is a bit of an eye-roller, but it was more the spot we fell in love with - the big sky and magical view of the Blue Mountains.  If BOYER HOUSE had a dream backyard - this was it!  The fact that it had acres of 20+ year old vines and a fully equipped production facility with a tasting room, well, it kind of invited itself into our family.

We've added a few touches to the property, primarily to expand its ability to create memorable experiences for as many guests as possible.  But the grapes and the panoramic view are Mother Nature's work.

CAMERON + KASEY DAVENPORT

PARTNERS

We both grew up in "the tip of the Mitt" of Northern Michigan, a resort area of Little Traverse Bay - and we were in the same elementary school together from kindergarten to fourth grade.  We had our separate journeys that took us far and wide around the country and the world to reconnecting and also sharing the love at first site story almost a decade later.

Our paths crossed and we fell in love in Miami Beach of all places.  Kasey had moved there learned how to run high-end weddings and events at some of South Florida's most exclusive and iconic hotels and event spaces.  She eventually built her own wedding planning business, Kasey D Weddings - honing her craft of event design, planning, logistics and - her passion, flowers - for top tier global brides and clients.  Cameron was working his way up the ladder of big-time yacht management to captainship - from navigations, to mechanics, to hospitality and - his passion- gourmet cooking - for some of the biggest private vessels (the 150ft kind) in the Mediterranean and South seas.

Wanting to return to our small-town roots and be closer to family, we discovered Walla Walla and it's burgeoning reputation as both a wine growing region and a sought-after wedding destination.  Kasey successfully re-booted her business here, becoming the go-to girl for couples looking for a one-of-a-kind destination wedding in the valley while Cameron had cooking stints at longtime local favorites White-house Crawford and TMACs prior to his star turn position as Executive Chef at Passatempo Taverna.

But now our passions and talents combine at KINHAVEN - our dream to work together has finally come to fruition. Our goal, is hosting guests and creating memorable experiences for all those who join us on this journey - enjoying wine with family and friends is our love language.

TIM DONAHUE

CONSULTING WINEMAKER

Tim Donahue joins us as our consulting winemaker. With 3 decades of international experience, a M.S. in Oenology from the University of Adelaide and 11 years at the helm of the Institute for Enology and Viticulture as Director of Winemaking here in Walla Walla, he brings a deep skill set for producing an impressive breadth of wine styles.

According to Tim “I love to help people craft wines of significance. It is vitally important that wines we produce express a style that conceptually matches the mission and vision of Kinhaven. I believe that winegrowing must be done in a hands-on and immersive environment at the intersection of agriculture, philosophy, business, chemistry, microbiology and craft. First and foremost, I evaluate every site for its' potential. Sometimes in order to realize a wine's essence - cutting-edge technology may be required in order to achieve a polished, focused wine. For other sites and varieties, artistic expression may be the focus and that situation may require taking a step back to using ancient time-honored techniques to craft wines that express vibrancy and terroir.”
